Patrick Lucas | Sculpture & Objects
Old Magazines, Newspaper, Plastic Jugs, Lids, Containers, Steel Ring & Base, Wire, Thread, Black Spraypaint | 2022
1.5’x3.5’x1.8’
This sculpture is made entirely from found objects and materials by appropriating a surplus of old magazines and book jackets that were collected over time. Managing to construct a composition that has personal meaning to the sculptor, it also begins to evoke a sense of curiosity within a viewer due to its large scale, organic structure, and use of paper. Consumerism was a large driving point for the artist in making this sculpture through the reappropriation of published material into something that disrupts a previously uninterrupted object in a recreational effort to shift our perspectives on how we consume visual information or entertainment. A relationship for infinite meaning, or possibly finite meaning, is established with a viewer, creating endless starting and stopping points for close observation and textual analysis.
